Description:
Our three-year Bachelor of Arts degree programs provide a broadly based framework for understanding society from a Christian perspective. Students may choose to complete a concentration in English, Psychology, Religion & Theology or Social Science; or they may choose a general studies route. Students will also have the option to complete a minor in a variety of disciplines.

Core Requirements:
All of Taylor University College's three-year Bachelor of Arts degrees have a common 48- credit core comprised of the following:

  • English: 6 credits consisting of ENG 100A/B or 101A/B.
  • Fine Arts or Language other than English (LOE): 6 credits in any one language other than English, or six credits of Fine Arts (Music or Drama).
  • History: 6 credits from one of HIS 120/121, 228/229, 260/261, or 290/291.
  • Philosophy: 3 credits.
  • Religion & Theology: 12 credits consisting of REL 102, 103, 262 and 360.
  • Sciences: 6 credits from Biology, Computing Science, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, or other Science disciplines.
  • Service Practicum: 3 credits from one of PRA 235A/B, 245A/B, 248A/B, or MUS 125A/B (1.5 credits each semester second year).
  • Social Sciences: 6 credits from Anthropology, Communications, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology.

Areas of Concentration:
Students may choose to complete a concentration consisting of at least 27 credits in their area of specialization. More credits may be required for some concentrations. Please see the descriptions of the concentrations below:

Minor (optional):
Students may complete a minor in the following areas:

  • Biblical Languages: 18-21 credits, including GRK 100A/B, HEB 100A/B, and 6-9 credits of unspecified senior courses in Biblical Languages (Aramaic, Hebrew, or Greek).
  • English: 18-21 credits, including ENG 100A/B or 101A/B, and 12-15 credits of unspecified senior English courses.
  • History: 18-21 credits, including a maximum of 6 credits of 100-level history courses, and a minimum of 12 credits of unspecified senior History courses.
  • Music: 18-21 credits, including MUS 100, MUS 170, two semesters of music lessons (MUS 111/112, 113/114, or 137A/B), two semesters of ensembles (MUS 119/120, 121/122, 125/126 or 140A/B) and unspecified Music courses to fulfill total credits required for the minor. Note: Students taking a minor in Music need to be careful to fulfill the three-year BA program requirement of 45 senior-level credits.
  • Psychology: 18-21 credits, including PSY 104, 105, and 12-15 credits of unspecified senior Psychology courses.
  • Religion & Theology: 18-21 credits, including REL 102, 103, 262, 360, and 6-9 credits of unspecified senior Religion & Theology courses.
  • Sociology: 18-21 credits, including SOC 100, and 15-18 credits of unspecified Sociology courses, with a minimum of 15 credits at the senior level.

Electives:
The remaining credits to make a total of 93 credits will be made up with elective courses.

First-Year Registration Requirements:
All first-year students must take REL 102 and 103. In addition, as part of our desire to see students succeed academically, first-year students are also required to take CCL 101: Introduction to Christian College Life. This one credit course is graded on a credit/no credit basis.

Additional Requirements:
In addition to the program requirements noted above, candidates for Taylor's three-year BA programs:

  • Must complete a minimum of 45 credits at the senior level, 200-level or higher.
  • Must complete a minimum of three credits in each of six disciplines.
  • Must take a minimum of 72 credits in Arts and Science courses.
  • May take no more than 42 credits in any one discipline.
  • May use core courses to fulfill requirements for concentrations and minors. However, the same course may not be counted toward both concentration and minor requirements.
  • Must complete at least 50% of the courses required for their concentration at Taylor.
  • Must complete 18 of their final 30 credits at Taylor, including the capstone core course REL 360 Christian World view.
  • May transfer a maximum of 60 credits from another institution into the program.
  • In order to graduate, a student must obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better in the 93 credits applicable to the degree. As well, a cumulative GPA of 2.30 or better is required in courses counting towards their area of concentration.
  • Students may not do a minor for the general studies route.

Career and Professional Paths:
Graduates of this program will have the foundation to make a positive contribution to society as well as develop the practical and theoretical skills to succeed in a variety of careers. Graduates may go on to professional or after-degree programs in a number of disciplines; however this program is not ideal for those anticipating further work at a graduate level. The three-year Bachelor of Arts degree does provide the broad exposure to the Arts and Sciences that many seminaries look for in their students.
