  • A New Pathway for Theological Education

Taylor has made an exciting step toward the future into which God is calling us!  Upon the recommendation of the seminary’s Vision Task Force and approval of the faculty, Taylor Seminary is now part of the Kairos Project. I (David Williams) couldn’t be more excited. My enthusiasm stems from the fact that this bold step forward creates a new pathway for theological educational that is affordable, accessible, relevant, and faithful. The life-changing journey of...

Dear friend of Taylor,

The Taylor Alumni Association has convened an official meeting for Saturday December 10th. A new executive will be chosen at this meeting, but there will also be an opportunity for discussion about Taylor. In advance of the meeting, the interim executive has prepared a survey to gather input from members. Watch your mailbox for the invitation and the survey.

All former students of the school are welcome to attend -- hope to see you here!

We would like to offer an apology for those who recently received multiple copies of our Fall 2011 fundraising letter. During the printing of the letter at an outside vendor, their printer broke down; over the course of several repairs by Xerox and the re-start of the printing process, a small number of letters were inadvertently printed several times.

As you can imagine, we began to hear from those who were affected; some were upset over a perceived waste of money, while others responded with humor. We did want you to know that this wasn't a case of carelessness or waste, and that Taylor is not responsible for the additional postage; thanks to everyone who drew this to our attention.

2011AdventConcertChristmas still seems far away, but the Advent Season is just weeks away. The Taylor Community Choir is putting the finishing touches on their Advent concert -- an event that will feature an arrangement for brass quintet that has been specially arranged for this performance.

The Taylor Community Choir, directed by Diana Wiens, will be presenting “Come, Emmanuel”, a program that includes works by Bach, Brahms and Tchaikovsky, and anthems by contemporary composers. Featured will be Buxtehude’s Advent Cantata #51, accompanied by brass quintet and organ.

There will be two concerts, December 3 and 4; the Saturday performance will begin at 7:00 PM, and the Sunday performance will begin at 3:00 PM, both at Lendrum Mennonite Brethren Church (11210 59 Ave, Edmonton).

This promises to be a wonderful evening focused on the birth of the Savior, and we hope you can join us; admission is free, but there will be an opportunity to contribute towards the cost of the event.

Taylor was in Winnipeg and Calgary for events last month. The Church Administrative Professionals' Symposium was held in Winnipeg and in Calgary; numbers were down from 2010, but still encouraging. Some attendees were disappointed over the cancellation of some speakers in Winnipeg, and we are planning ahead to future events with these helpful comments in mind.

Taylor Seminary has also been on the road this fall, showcasing our programs and courses to prospective students. This week, we are meeting with delegates at the Canadian Youth Workers Convention in Vancouver, BC, and we recently attended the Banff Pastors' Conference and spent time meeting with students in Winnipeg and Calgary.

November 8: new onWORD series "Four [different] Gospels" begins; features Dr. Keir Hammer (three consecutive Tuesdays)
December 3, 4: Taylor Community Choir Advent Concert
December 10: Taylor Alumni Association Official Meeting

Did you know that Taylor has significant changed the way we offer theological education? For instance, courses are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and arranged in such a way that students could be on campus just one day per week and still be "full-time" (for the purposes of student financial aid) -- as long as they took advantage of our modular and/or online course offerings as well.

We often say that Taylor has been 're-tooling itself', changing to meet the needs of today's student. Come and see how Taylor serves the local church by equipping and training men and women for more effective service. “The Taylor difference makes a big difference.

Thanks for your continued interest in Taylor! As always, please be in touch if there is any way we can be of service.
