2011 E.P. Wahl Lectures
Taylor is pleased to announced that the 2011 E.P. Wahl Lectures will feature Dr. Douglas Moo, the Blanchard Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College and the Chair of the Committee for Bible translation. This lecture series, which began 25 years ago, is a significant continuing education opportunity for pastors, academics and students, as well as anyone else interested in attending.
The 26th Annual E.P. Wahl Lectures will take place March 22, 2011 in Stencel Hall (Taylor College and Seminary).
2011 E.P. Wahl Lectures
Text, Theology, and Translation: Reflections on the Updated NIV, with Dr. Douglas Moo
Session 1: The Obedience of Faith (Rom. 1:5)
Session 2: The Righteousness of God (Rom. 3:21-26)
Session 3: Fighting the Flesh (Rom. 7:5-8:13)
Session 4: Translation and Gender Issues (Rom. 14:1-23)
Dr. Douglas Moo is an expert on Pauline theology, and each session will relate some of his recent work on Bible translation to larger questions raised in the book of Romans.
Dr. Moo will lead a fascinating exploration of several passsages in the book of Romans while exploring the issues involved in translating the scriptures; specifically, he will address the changes being made to the NIV, already the most widely used English-language Bible in the world (the new NIV will be published in March 2011). Significant work has been done on understanding the original languages of scripture, and an unprecedented amount of work has been done on current English language usage. Other changes are being made to improve readability of the text.
Approximately 5-percent of the text of the NIV is being updated, so these changes are of significant interest to anyone who teaches, preaches, studies and memorizes the Bible, and we are honored to have such an esteemed scholar offer this timely presentation as the 2011 E.P. Wahl Lectures at Taylor College and Seminary.

Advent Series at onWORD
New onWORD series explores Scripture in the Music of Christmas
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Taylor's onWORD series will delve into the familiar carols and hymns of Advent. Through these beloved songs, we recount details of Jesus' birth -- but how closely do these carols follow the scriptural narrative?
Over the course of several weeks, we'll explore the history and authorship of these timeless Christmas songs, and we'll take the time to sing them together. And along the way we'll explore the narratives in the Gospels, exploring this familiar story in new ways and distinguishing between what we know and what we think we know. And, beyond the mere facts of the story, we'll participate in the story by seeing it from various perspectives.
