LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THE MAICS
The student shall be able to demonstrate:
Biblical Studies
- An understanding of how the books of the Bible came to be written and familiarity with their contents and distinctive ideas,
- Basic knowledge of the various contexts of both the OT and NT,
- A basic understanding of some of the critical methods used in biblical studies and an appreciation for the history of biblical scholarship and interpretation,
- The ability to read and interact with both popular and critical commentaries, and
- Skill in biblical interpretation, research methods and documentation.
Church History and Theology
- A familiarity with the basic lineaments of the history of the church,
- Value for the essential place of history in shaping our understanding of the Christian faith,
- A basic understanding of the major doctrines of the Christian faith,
- Value for the importance of a theological understanding for life and ministry, and
- Serving the church and culture through the integration of doctrine and ministry.
Church Mission and Ministry
- Having developed a mindset for ongoing theological reflection,
- An understanding of the dynamics of spiritual warfare,
- Having established a personal, biblical perspective on the missional church and integral mission,
- Becoming familiar with the history and major theories of intercultural communication,
- Increasing awareness of one’s own cultural values and attitudes and one’s own style as a communicator,
- Having developed a biblical and theological framework for the task of evangelism,
- An understanding of the biblical imperative of church planting & being familiar with a number of models,
- Having been exposed to some tools to analyze contemporary culture,
- An understanding of the basic cultural and linguistic issues related to languages and culture learning,
- The ability to use different language and cultural learning techniques, methodologies and activities,
- An awareness of cultural and non-verbal communication issues,
- The ability to articulate the ethics and attitudes essential for successful language and cultural learning,
- The ability to design a research proposal,
- Familiarity with several types of research methodologies used in missiological studies,
- An understanding of some of the unique concerns of missionary research,
- Being able to understand and articulate spiritual formation from a biblical and historical perspective,
- An increased awareness of the value of Christian community,
- Fostering a commitment to the role of offering spiritual direction,
- An understanding of the presence and impact of non-Christian religions in the world today,
- The ability to compare and contrast the basic teaching of non-Christian faiths with Christianity, and
- Engagement in evangelistic dialogue with those of other faiths.
