Pastoral Worker in Videography & Online Ministry

Fort City Church

Fort McMurray, Alberta

Job Description: PDF of Job Ad

You are passionate about Jesus and passionate to use video as a tool to reach young adults and really anyone who will engage with the healing life transforming message of Jesus in these days of pandemic pain and stress. You are wanting to see your love for video as a communication medium truly make a difference through a local church setting. You don’t just love video, you love the people whose stories you get to tell. You are a rare combination of pastor and technical artist. (Or hey, at least close, that’s such a wild combination!) With a heart for adventure, you’re willing to invest a year of your life in a vibrant northern Canadian city developing your video and ministry skills, while driven to see people broken in so many ways by the stress of this pandemic find hope and healing. You are a creative action-oriented storyteller who will be willing to be involved in all aspects of Fort City’s video and online ministry, while potentially working with a small group of young adults, journeying with them during these days of pandemic stress.

FORT CITY CHURCH ( in the midst and aftermath of this worldwide pandemic has a one-year contract position available to spearhead the video and online offerings of our church with a focus on reaching our city with the hope of Jesus as we push back on the torment of mental health issues. While the focus is young adults, we see this focus as the unique key to reaching the diversity of our city. You will be involved in everything from a creative presentation of online Sunday worship to videos and online content that penetrate the hearts and minds of all who call Fort McMurray home and to wherever your time and your creativity allows you to go.

This is Northern Alberta. This is oil sands country. And through tough times Fort McMurray has emerged as one resilient city. A young city with an average age of 33 and 75,000 strong, we have weathered Canada’s largest natural disaster, the wildfire of 2016; a flood of the century in 2020; as well as the economic uncertainty that grips the oil sector, while navigating the current pandemic. We have this can-do frontier spirit that is fun and a bit intoxicating. It has led to our heart cry becoming “Fort McMurray strong!”

You’ll find throughout our region of Wood Buffalo a deep commitment to hard work and intense play. We are intense in our pursuit of sports be it fishing, hunting, the shooting sports, hockey, baseball, golf, mountain biking, ultimate, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, gaming, quading, snowmobiling, motocross, kayaking, (just think outdoor stuff) while engaging in a growing music, arts and pub scene. We have a unique breath taking geography that would take a lifetime to explore.

We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 8 land, which is the traditional territory of the Cree and Dene and the unceded territory of the Métisand an ancient gathering place to many indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Our church community is inclusive of those of First Nations backgrounds as well as a wide diversity of people from around the world who have come to make Northern Alberta home.

Most importantly you’ll be serving with a church family who are experiencing the power of Jesus to live and love like him. You will be part of a team seeking to make Jesus visible in the midst of the rawness of life in a sin wreaked world. You will personally embark on a Spirit empowered life transforming journey that will help shape you for the future God has for you.
