Job Description:

Pastor/Director Hope Students/Hope Kids (30 hrs./week)

Summary: Hope Community Covenant Church is seeking an energetic, creative and passionate team player who can develop and oversee our Hope Kids and Hope Students programs. We want to deepen faith and significantly impact the spiritual lives of our youth and their friends.

Accountability to:  Lead Pastor.  He/she is expected to accept the central beliefs of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC); comply with all policies and procedures adopted by Hope Community Covenant Church Council and support the ministries and activities of the church.

Pastor/Director Hope Students

Objective:  Provide a place where Hope Students can know, understand, and grow in God’s love. It is understood that building and maintaining positive relationships with students is an essential part of all Hope Student activities.

Qualifications

  • Theologically trained
  • A personal, contagious faith in Jesus Christ and a positive example of Christian living
  • Previous experience working with students
  • A good communicator
  • Organized with ability to use his/her time well
  • A good team player, can work well with all kinds of people
  • Ability to use technology and social media to stay connected and engaged with students

Responsibilities

  • Encourage Hope Students to have a personal relationship with Jesus, nurture a growing and dynamic faith and mentoring youth to share and live out their faith with their peers.
  • Collaborate with others in a supportive manner that creates and develops teamwork, willingness to receive and offer feedback.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and develop qualified volunteers and share leadership with those volunteers.
  • Connect with students at Hope in the wider Strathmore community through attending sporting events, concerts, etc.
  • Plan and manage all special events for Hope Students (CHIC, retreats, camps, etc.).
  • Develop community service and outreach opportunities for Hope Students.
  • Build relationships with Hope Students, their parents, and the wider church.
  • Help Hope Students discover their spiritual gifts and where they can use those gifts to serve others. Integrate Hope Students into the wider church, especially on Sunday mornings.
  • Uphold safety of Hope Students by complete background checks for self and all volunteers. Maintain Transportation Waivers and permission slips for all external activities. Complete and maintain Incident Reports.
  • Develop and manage the budget for Hope Students.
  • Communicate the mission and vision of Hope Students to the church, staff, and volunteers.
  • Strategically plan the Hope Students programming and events in coordination with other ministries to fulfill the mission of Hope Community Covenant Church to “Connect-Grow-Serve”
  • Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor for mentoring, growth and accountability, and participate in all staff meetings as needed and/or requested.
  • Take time for personal spiritual growth and formation.

Hope Student Hours

  • 15 hours per week, including Sunday morning and midweek activities

Pastor/Director Hope Kids (15 hrs./week)

Objective:  To provide Godly leadership in a strong, loving and healthy children’s program. Collaborate with families, in conjunction with Hope Community Covenant nursery, youth and adult ministries, to enable children, whether churched or unchurched, to be led into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  

Qualifications

  • Theologically trained
  • A personal, contagious faith in Jesus Christ with ability to communicate, cultivate and share an infectious love for Christ and can communicate big spiritual ideas to children
  • Previous experience working with children – is outgoing, high energy, personable and approachable by both kids and parents.
  • Know and understand developmental milestones of kids, and able to communicate and build relationships with kids of all ages
  • Ability to use technology and social media to stay connected with families of Hope Kids.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, scheduling, training, coordination and monitoring of volunteers for Sunday morning programing, creating warm, safe, and transformative relationships with children and families.
  • Be a healthy team player, collaborating with others, willing to receive and offer feedback in a positive and supportive manner that creates and develops teamwork.
  • Execute church policy, especially as it relates to child protection, complete background checks for self and all volunteers.
  • A good communicator who can teach and mentor children with patience and an accepting heart.
  • Natural leader who is organized, knows how to manage time, initiate tasks and follow through on details on self-monitored basis
  • Comfortable with kids with special needs and know how to include them in wider ministry
  • Create and effectively manage ministry within an established budget.
  • Communicate the mission and vision of Hope Kids to the church, staff, and volunteers.
  • Strategically plan the Hope Kids programming and events in coordination with other ministries to fulfill the mission of Hope Community Covenant Church to “Connect-Grow-Serve”
