Rev. Darren Platt ('04) grew up in northeast Edmonton and became a Christian at the age of 18. He attended SHBC for seven years while completing his formal forestry education at NAIT and the University of Alberta. After graduation, he moved to northern Alberta to work in the forest industry for 12 years as a registered professional forester. In 2001 he and his family moved back to Edmonton and in 2004 he graduated with his Master of Divinity from Taylor Seminary. He began at Steele Heights Baptist Church in 2004 as Pastor of Adult Ministries and answered God's call to serve as the Senior Pastor in June 2007.

Born in Ontario, James K.A. Smith is a Professor of Philosophy and the Gary & Henrietta Byker Chair in Applied Reformed Theology & Worldview at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
