Taylor News
We were delighted to receive photos of the nearly completed school building that was begun by Taylor students during a missions trip this spring. Taylor students raised money to fund this project, then worked hard to get the foundation laid.
Before the team returned to Canada, they left the necessary funds to allow construction to continue, and earlier this month, just as students left for a 4 week break, the nearly finished building was officially opened. A local dignitary was on hand to cut the ribbon and to read a plaque which reads: “Funding for this House was provided by Taylor University College, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and handed over to the Sungula Basic School on August 1st, 1008 by The Simon Poultney Foundation. May God bless this home and everyone who passes through it.”
This primary school (Grades 1-9) has over 800 students, but only 7 classrooms, so they go to school in 3 shifts a day. They need more teachers, but it has not been possible to find teachers willing to come without these accommodations. Working with the Simon Poultney Foundation, Taylor has been able to contribute to the educational needs of Zambian children in a very tangible way, and we are grateful for the students, staff and faculty, as well as parents and donors, whose hard work has made this possible. (You can see more photos from this project here.)
