“Going Forward On Our Knees”
Taylor University College and Seminary Graduation 2004

James Hudson Taylor IIIFifty university college students and twelve seminary students gathered along with their family and friends to graduate from Taylor on May 1, 2004. The weather was beautiful and the excitement for spring, the sense of accomplishment, and the anticipation of future plans were central themes of the day.

The commencement ceremony, held at West Meadows Baptist Church, was a time to honor the graduates and offer gratitude to the Lord for what He has done. James Hudson Taylor III was the special guest speaker at the ceremony. As the great grandson of James Hudson Taylor (the school’s namesake), and as a missionary who served in Taiwan for twenty-five years, Dr. Taylor eloquently communicated his passion for God’s work with the Chinese people. He encouraged the graduates to persevere in the work of the Lord and to build on the work of those who have come before.

The graduates were inducted into the Alumni Association by Coordinator of Alumni Affairs, Christine Okken, who challenged the graduates as they are entering into a new stage of life. She used one of James Hudson Taylor’s quotes that states, “You must go forward on your knees.” She encouraged the new alumni to go forward into the world in submission to God and in fervent prayer for His wisdom.

This year’s graduation was a time to recognize accomplishment and also a time of inspiration. Each of us can take the challenge to “go forward on our knees” in prayer for our lives of service and for the ministry of Taylor.
