The Online Bridge
Issue 6
Winter, 2004

“Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. Since we’ve no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…”

It is that time of year when most of us would like to spend our time curled up under a blanket with a good story and a cup of hot chocolate. This winter season, we would like to present to you an Online Bridge which fits with these wishes for warmth and comfort!

This edition of the Online Bridge is a “scrapbook of alumni stories.” We have compiled a selection of stories from a cross-section of alumni, aiming to reflect the wide variety of ways God is at work in the lives of former classmates/faculty. These stories are our way of sending encouragement to you. So, make yourself a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy!

Ron Bublitz
Building a Dream

Ron BublitzRon is a 1988 NABC graduate from the two-year Associate of Arts program. He is currently working in the film industry in Los Angeles, USA. In the past, he has worked on such films as, “The Mummy Returns”, “Peter Pan” and “Terminator 3”. Ever since he was a child, he dreamed of one day working on a Star Wars movie. See if Ron’s dream came true…

Carol Potratz
Jehovah Jireh, My Provider

Carol Potratz worked at NABC as Associate Dean of Students for several years. She was well-loved and respected. Carol shone out as a lover of God and people. Her warm, nearly unending smile was her personal trademark. She took the work of discipleship and training of young people very seriously. However, In 1998, God called Carol to a position with the NAB conference as recruiter for their missionary force overseas. How God has provided for Carol?

Cordell Schreiner
Stepping Out

Cordell SchreinerIf Cordell could give one piece of advice to a current Taylor student, it would be to “push out of their comfort zone and take some risks.” He would suggest that they do some traveling. He would warn them against becoming complacent. He would tell them that he looks back on the years since his time at NABC and that he sees the most rewarding times being the ones that he stepped out of his own “comfort zone”.

Ed Link
Taylor’s Vital Link

Ed LinkYou may recognize the name of Ed Link as your Choristers’ director or your CTI professor, but when youthful Ed Link attended the first CTI graduation in 1941, he did not realize that he would go on to work at there (later to become NABC) for nearly fifty years of his life.

Rob Merrifield
Taking a Stand

Rob MerrifieldRob is a NABC graduate of 1973. He is currently the Member of Parliament for the Yellowhead riding and Senior health critic for the newly formed Conservative Party of Canada. As an MP and Health Critic, Rob has a key role in preserving Christian ethics in government policy-making regarding healthcare. Read how Rob is taking a stand in government.

Karen Allingham (formerly Hug)
New Direction

Karen AllinghamKaren Allingham (formerly Karen Hug) first attended NABC in 1987 and obtained a CBS (Certificate of Biblical Studies). She returned to campus and obtained a Masters Degree in theological studies from the Seminary in 1995. Karen’s path has been “redirected” many times since she finished her program at EBS (Edmonton Baptist Seminary--now Taylor Seminary), but God has brought her through.

Taylor Choristers

The annual Chorister tour is “going west.” The team will be touring through Alberta, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon from May 2-16, 2004. The Choristers ensemble is comprised of 6 guys and 15 gals. An additional four people will join the Choristers so as to create two vocal ensembles. The ensembles, a mixed quartet called “Salt” and a ladies sextet called “Allotrios”, will perform alongside the Choristers. The total touring membership is 25. Look for the team as they may be coming to a church near you. Please pray for safety and effectiveness in ministry for this team as they prepare for this 2004 tour!

Taylor Missions Team

The 2004 Taylor Missions Team is going to Romania with Gateway Teams (NAB). They will be going for approximately 3 weeks beginning May 6, 2004. The team leader is Dr. Terry Fossen, Senior Pastor of Central Baptist Church, Edmonton. The team is composed of Joel Ellard from Vermilion, Chara Euraoba from Regina, Darren Franks from Nipawin, Becca Guenther and Alita Stark, both from Edmonton, and Lauren Wright from Leduc. They will be working in cooperation with the Baptist Churches in Oradea, Romania, doing children’s and evangelism ministries. Please pray for unity, sensitivity to God’s leading, and protection for this team!

Distinguished Alumni Awards Nomination Procedure

We are pleased to announce the opening of nominations for Distinguished Alumni Awards. The first of the Distinguished Alumni Awards for former students of Taylor University College and Seminary, NABC / EBS, and CTI were presented at the NAB Triennial Conference in July of 2003. At that time, we announced we would be seeking nominations from our alumni and friends for future awards.

We want to work with our alumni and friends to recognize and acknowledge the valuable contribution made by our alumni through their lives of service to the cause of Christ. This is your opportunity to nominate someone for a Distinguished alumni Award whom you see as a “Christ-minded leader.”

We have established nomination criteria for the Distinguished Alumni Awards and a nomination process for selecting the most deserving nominees. Please click on the nomination criteria and nomination form links below to get further information on this exciting new alumni recognition program.

Nominations are due March 31, 2004 and will be announced at the April 24 event
