Carol Potratz
Jehovah- Jireh, My Provider

Carol PotratzCarol Potratz worked at NABC as Associate Dean of Students for several years. She was well-loved and respected. Carol shone out as a lover of God and people. Her warm, nearly unending smile was her personal trademark. She took the work of discipleship and training of young people very seriously. However, In 1998, God called Carol to a position with the NAB conference as recruiter for their missionary force overseas.

When she began with the conference, a slight decline in overseas missions was occurring. Carol knew that as the only recruiter, she could not keep current with all of the churches and the 3 schools within the conference. She turned to God’s word and found insight in Matthew 9:36-38 which says, “He saw…He had compassion…He said, “The Harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the harvest field.” Immediately, she knew that her responsibilities were clear. It was her job to pray and His job to send!

Now, everywhere that Carol goes, she asks people to “pray up” workers for home and abroad. The Lord definitely did His part. In 2002, 14 couples or individuals were appointed to go overseas with NAB! Over 340 people helped to strengthen missions mobilization by serving on 33 teams during 2002. NAB had 27 International Gateway teams, 5 home Gateway teams and 1 prayer team. Forty-four volunteers from the NAB churches served in the different mission fields during 2002. God proved himself to be the great provider or, “Jehovah-Jireh,” in so many areas of Carol’s new job and in the building of His kingdom!

Not only has Carol seen the provision of God in her work with NAB, she has also seen the amazing hand of God in her family this past year. Beginning in October of this year, Carol’s family underwent hardship.

  • Her brother-in-law was nearly killed in a car accident and went through a very difficult healing process.
  • His wife (Carol’s sister) had major surgery.
  • Her eldest sister Ruth’s best friend passed away.
  • Carol herself went through a time of having health irregularities.

All in all, God protected each of Carol’s family members and saw fit to heal each one of them. So many heartaches brought about so many blessings. Carol’s brother-in-law, Terry, gained a whole new perspective on life, the whole family grew closer together, and Carol was again able to see God’s provision for his people.

Carol’s past few years have been full of change and challenge. She has sought hard after the Lord and He has answered her prayers. He has provided for her and for His kingdom. Praise God for His faithfulness!
