our 2005 alumni scholarship award winners

Each year a scholarship is awarded to a college and a seminary student who have distinguished themselves academically and in their Christian character. These students also need to be seeking a career of fulltime vocational ministry. These scholarships are paid from an endowment fund established through the generous gifts of alumni who wish to provide financial support and encouragement to future generations of students.

This year’s scholarship winners were, from the university college, Thomas Calamunce and from the seminary, Jonah Beckerman. Following the year-end events Jonah and wife Jessica left for Cameroon where Jonah will be doing a summer internship at the Mbingo Baptist Hospital under Rev. Godlove Ndongnde, a 2001 graduate of Taylor Seminary, in the area of pastoral counselling. For the last part of the summer, Jonah will work with Calvin Hohn, a graduate of NABC, amongst an unreached people groups. Returning to Edmonton Jonah and Jessica will once again involve themselves at Greenfield Baptist Church where Jonah will be on staff as he continues his seminary education, pursuing an M.Div in Intercultural Ministries. Currently, Thomas Calamunce is working at his home church, The Grove Church in Langley, BC, as youth intern and in the fall will be attending ACTS Seminaries on the campus of Trinity Western University also in Langley, BC, where he plans to complete the Masters of Divinity program.

The dollar amount of the Alumni Scholarship is fully dependant on the amount of investment income earned by the endowment fund. With interest rates and other investment rates of return at historically low levels, the investment income from this endowment fund has declined over the past few years, reducing the size of the scholarship students receive. In order to provide as much support and encouragement as possible to the worthy students who receive this scholarship, we would like to encourage our alumni to contribute to this, their scholarship fund. As this fund grows, it can generate a larger annual scholarship, helping these Christ-minded future leaders pursue their education and follow their call into ministry.

To make your contribution to the Alumni Scholarship Fund, send your gift, marked A lumni Scholarship Fund, to the alumni office of Taylor University College and Seminary.
