Andrew Sims (B.Mus, M. Mus) – Piano, Musikgarten, Accompanying

Andrew SimsAndrew holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Baylor University (Texas) and a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Alberta. He has received many awards and scholarships throughout his studies, teaching both private students and classes at the post-secondary level. For one year Andrew taught the Musikgarten (pre-school music classes) program in Waco, Texas. He has accompanied for a ballet school in Edmonton, published articles on Alexander Technique, and studied ways to teach piano creatively. His teachers include Jacques Despres, Marnie Giesbrecht and Jane Abbott-Kirk. He is a founding member of Trio Aria and has performed with the Taylor String Quartet.

Andrew spent the summer of 2014 at the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria where he performed in concerts and masterclasses in Haydn Hall of the Esterhazy Palace.

Andrew teaches all levels of piano and is in demand as an accompanist.

Carol Mellors (ARCT, RMT) – Piano, Theory

 

Pianist Carol Mellors studied with Mary Grapentin, Dr. Lillian Upright and Frances Scragg. She also studied organ with Hugh Bancroft. Carol has participated in master classes with Kendall Taylor, G. Sebok, Anton Kuerti, Jane Coop, Janine Fialkowska, Angela Hewitt, Angela Chang, Jon Kimura Parker, Quartetto Gelato, the Gryphon Trio, Boris Berlin and theorist William Andrews. She has also been active as a member of ARMTA and CFMTA, having served on several board positions. Ms. Mellors was an adjudicator for the Western Board of Music and was instrumental in the start up of the piano camp at MusiCamrose. She is a percussionist with the Edmonton Schoolboys Alumni Band and has been teaching at Alberta College for a number of years.

Carol teaches all levels of piano, theory and piano pedagogy.

Leanne Maitland (B. Mus, M. Mus, Artist Dip.) – Violin, Viola

Leanne received a Bachelor of Music (with distinction) in viola performance from the University of Alberta and a Master of Music degree in viola performance from the Eastman School of Music in New York. She also holds the Arts Leadership certificate from Eastman and an Artist Diploma from McGill University. Leanne is a qualified Suzuki teacher and received a Graduate Assistantship at Eastman where she taught undergraduate level viola. While attending university here in Edmonton, she was a finalist in the U of A Concerto Competition.

Ms. Maitland performs with Opera Nuova (principal viola), the Edmonton Symphony, the Enterprise String Quartet and the Vif String Quartet. She is interested in all styles of music and is a member of the indie folk band Dead Red Pine, whose music is available on CD. In 2014 she toured Europe with the Obessions Quartet, made up of members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Leanne is an adjudicator with the St. Albert Rotary Music Festival.

Leanne teaches beginner and intermediate violin and all levels of viola. She is accepting new students on Tuesdays.
